AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan Schemes: Federal Programmes That Reach You

AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan Schemes: Federal Programmes That Reach You

Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan do not run provincial scheme shelves like Punjab’s or KP’s, and this page will not pretend otherwise. What both regions have is full access to the federal floor, and in one programme, better access than the provinces get: the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme selects Grade 9 and Grade 10 toppers in AJK, GB and ICT, while the four provinces get Grade 9 only. BISP pays its quarterly stipend in AJK and GB households on the same NSER rules, federal health cover reaches surveyed families in coverage areas, AJK nationals are expressly eligible for federal laptops, and AJK and GB students studying in Punjab can even qualify for Punjab’s PEEF scholarships. This page maps exactly what applies in AJK and GB, and where to check each item.

The Chromebook Difference: Two Grades, Not One

The federal Chromebook design quietly favours the smaller regions: in Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan only Grade 9 board toppers are selected from government schools, while AJK, GB and the federal capital select Grades 9 and 10 both. There is still no application and no fee anywhere: board merit lists decide, documents are uploaded through the IBCC portal when a student’s name is listed, and Punjab’s published quota math (181,090 of 500,000) shows how the national total is shared. Our Chromebook guide gives the portal and the document rules.

Cash, Health and Study: The Federal Floor Here

The same checks that work in Lahore work in Muzaffarabad and Gilgit. SMS your CNIC to 8171 to read your household’s BISP standing; that standing also carries Taleemi Wazaif stipends for your children and Nashonuma support for mothers. Surveyed families in AJK and GB coverage areas use the federal Sehat model with the CNIC as the card and the 8500 check. University students from AJK are expressly named in the PM Laptop criteria as eligible nationals, and a student from GB studying at a Punjab institution can enter PEEF’s net through that institution, one of the few cross-border doors in the whole system.

What AJK and GB Do Not Have (Yet)

Honesty is this page’s job, so here is the gap plainly. There is no AJK or GB equivalent of the Punjab Kissan Card, no provincial laptop scheme of their own, no Dhee Rani or Rozgar running under either regional government in our coverage, and no dedicated guide on this site for a regional scheme because none with a public programme structure was verified at the time of writing. Regional governments do run smaller local support through their own social welfare and zakat channels, handled at district offices; if a major AJK or GB scheme launches, this page is where its guide will be linked first.

Checks an AJK or GB Family Should Know

  • Standing: SMS your CNIC to 8171 for BISP status; it is the key to the child programmes too.
  • Students: watch board merit lists for Chromebooks (Grades 9 and 10), and university lists for PM Laptops.
  • Health: check federal cover by SMS to 8500 where the programme operates in your district.
  • Cross-border door: AJK and GB students enrolled in Punjab institutions should ask their institution about PEEF.

AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan Schemes: FAQs

Do AJK and GB have their own government schemes?

They run smaller local support through regional departments and district offices, but no large provincial-style scheme shelf like Punjab’s. The substantial programmes reaching AJK and GB residents are federal, and this page maps them.

Why do AJK and GB students get two Chromebook grades?

The federal design selects Grade 9 toppers in the four provinces, but Grades 9 and 10 in AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and ICT. Selection is by board merit list in government schools, with no application or fee.

Does BISP operate in AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan?

Yes. BISP pays the quarterly Rs 14,500 Kafaalaat stipend to eligible households in AJK and GB under the same NSER survey and PMT rules, checkable by SMS to 8171.

Can an AJK student get a PM Laptop?

Yes. The federal criteria expressly include Pakistani and AJK nationals studying at public HEC-recognised institutions, subject to merit and the other conditions.

Can a GB student get a Punjab scholarship?

Through one door: PEEF covers AJK, GB, former FATA and ICT students who are studying in Punjab institutions and meet the merit and income conditions.

Is there any fee for these schemes in AJK or GB?

No. Federal checks, selections and applications are free in AJK and GB exactly as elsewhere. Anyone charging for a Chromebook, a BISP enrolment or a laptop list place is a fraud.

For an AJK or GB household, the practical order is simple. Start with the 8171 check, because BISP standing opens the door to the child and mother programmes as well as the quarterly stipend itself. Then keep an eye on the lists that actually decide the study programmes: board merit lists for Chromebooks in Grades 9 and 10, and university lists for PM Laptops, rather than any agent or social media post promising a place. Check health cover through the 8500 service where it operates in your district, and if you study in Punjab, ask your institution directly about PEEF before assuming you are outside its net. Keep your CNIC and your institution or board records ready, use only the official portals and SMS numbers named on this page, and treat any fee request as a warning sign. Federal programmes reach AJK and GB on national rules, so the same free checks that apply elsewhere apply here too, and this page will be updated first if a regional programme with a verified public structure appears. Bookmark the linked guides for BISP, Chromebooks, laptops, health cover, loans and PEEF, and recheck them when a new quarter or academic list opens, because dates and lists change even when the national rules stay the same.
