Pakistan Army soldier jobs are the largest uniformed intake open to young Pakistanis: soldier recruitment runs in cycles through the year for the soldier, clerk, cook, military police and sanitary worker trades, mostly at Matric level, through joinpakarmy.gov.pk and Army Selection and Recruitment Centres. This guide explains the eligibility, age and height standards recent advertisements have used, the tests, and exactly how registration works.
One honesty note before the detail: soldier cycles open and close on the Army’s own calendar, and the current cycle’s exact dates are announced on the official portal and in newspapers when a cycle opens. Right now the Army’s open registration is for Junior Commissioned Officers, to 15 December 2026; the soldier standards below follow the pattern of recent soldier advertisements, and the current advertisement, when it appears, is always final.
Army Soldier Trades and Their Requirements
| Trade | Education (recent ads) | Minimum height (recent ads) |
|---|---|---|
| Soldier | Matric or above | 5 feet 6 inches (167.5 cm) |
| Clerk | Intermediate, computer diploma preferred | 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm) |
| Cook | Middle or above | 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm) |
| Military Police | Matric or above | 5 feet 8 inches (172 cm) |
| Sanitary Worker | Primary | 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm) |
The trades share one recruitment but not one standard. The soldier trade is the general door and the largest intake. Clerk is the office door and the only trade where a computer diploma adds real weight. Military police carries the tallest height standard of the group. Cook and sanitary worker trades take the lowest education levels in the Army and are often the least competed for, which makes them a practical entry for candidates whose schooling stopped early.
Age Limit for Army Soldier Jobs
Recent soldier advertisements have set the age band for soldier entry at 17 and a half to 23 years, counted to a fixed date named in the advertisement, with the relaxations those advertisements state, including for the families of martyrs and for candidates from specified areas. Graduate candidates and some categories have been allowed a higher ceiling in past advertisements. Because the counted-to date decides eligibility to the day, a candidate neartheboundary should compute his age against the current advertisement’s date before travelling to a centre, not after reaching it.
How to Register for Army Soldier Recruitment
Registration opens two ways when a cycle is announced. Online, at joinpakarmy.gov.pk, where you fill the registration for your chosen trade and receive your test date and centre. Or in person, at the Army Selection and Recruitment Centre of your district or the nearest city, with your documents, which suits candidates whose internet access is unreliable. Either way you leave with a registration slip carrying your roll number and reporting date; guard it, because every later stage works off it. Registration itself is free, and any person charging to register you is not part of the process.
The Tests: Written, Physical and Medical
Selection runs in stages at the recruitment centre. First an initial test: a written and intelligence paper, verbal and non-verbal reasoning with basic English, Urdu and mathematics at the trade’s education level, taken on computer at most centres now. Then the physical test for soldier trades, centred on a 1.6 kilometre run, around 8 minutes being the working standard in recent cycles, with push-ups and sit-ups alongside. Then an initial medical examination at the centre, covering height, weight, chest, eyesight and general fitness, followed for successful candidates by a detailed medical and an interview. Final selection is made centrally on merit, and selected candidates receive joining instructions for training at a regimental centre.
Documents Required on the Test Day
Carry the originals and photocopy sets of: your CNIC (or Form-B with your father’s CNIC if you are under 18 and the cycle admits your age), your education certificates and marks sheets, your domicile certificate, and recent passport-size photographs, exactly as the registration slip directs. Names and dates of birth must match across CNIC and certificates; the centre verifies documents before testing, and a mismatch sends a candidate home to fix it, which in a short cycle can mean losing the cycle entirely. Fix mismatches at NADRA or your board before the cycle opens, not during it.
Soldier or JCO or Officer: Pick Your Door Honestly
The Army offers the same young man three different doors, and they are not interchangeable. Soldier entry, this page, is the Matric-level door with the widest intake and the youngest age band. Junior Commissioned Officer entry, open now to 15 December 2026 for the Education Corps, is for religious-education graduates aged 20 to 28 and leads to a junior officer’s rank. Commissioned officer entry through the PMA courses sits above both and works through the ISSB. A candidate who qualifies for a higher door should use it; a candidate who does not should take the soldier door while his age allows, because the age band, once passed, does not return.
Mistakes That End Soldier Applications Early
- Travelling to a centre without original documents, or with a name mismatch between CNIC and certificates.
- Ignoring the counted-to date and arriving overage for the cycle.
- No running preparation; the physical test is pass or fail on the day.
- Registering through an agent or a lookalike website instead of joinpakarmy.gov.pk or a recruitment centre.
- Missing the reporting date on the registration slip; centres do not hold a second day for absentees.
Preparation should start before a cycle is announced, not after it. A daily run, built up gradually to 1.6 kilometres, plus basic push-ups and sit-ups, leaves the physical test as a formality rather than a gamble. Candidates who wait for the advertisement to start running usually discover that a few weeks is not enough to build the stamina the test demands.
Keep your documents ready in the same way. Check now that the name and date of birth on your CNIC match your Matric certificate and domicile exactly, and correct any mismatch at NADRA or your board while you still have time. Candidates who leave that check until the cycle opens often find the correction takes longer than the cycle lasts.
