Sehat Card Plus is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s universal health insurance: every permanent resident of the province is covered automatically, with no application and no card to collect, because your CNIC is the card. Show it at any empanelled hospital and admitted treatment is paid by the programme’s insurer, State Life. The cover was restructured on 1 July 2026, and most websites still print the old single figure, so this page gives the current structure: Rs 40,000 per family member for secondary care, Rs 400,000 per family for tertiary care, and a further Rs 400,000 family reserve for the most serious cases. For the federal and Punjab version of health cover, see our Sehat Sahulat Program.

The July 2026 Cover Structure, Explained
Older pages describe Sehat Card Plus as simply “Rs 1 million per family”. That headline was always the sum of parts, and from 1 July 2026 the parts are published plainly on the programme’s State Life site:
| Package | Limit | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Secondary care | Rs 40,000 per family member | Ordinary admissions: emergencies, general medicine and surgery, orthopaedics, maternity, children, eye and ENT care |
| Tertiary care | Rs 400,000 per family | Heart disease, cancer treatment, diabetes complications, kidney disease including dialysis and transplant, neurosurgery |
| Additional reserve | Rs 400,000 per family | Only for dialysis, cancer, heart and ICU patients, released if funds allow |
So a family of five can reach about Rs 1 million in a heavy year (5 x Rs 40,000 secondary, plus Rs 400,000 tertiary, plus the reserve), while a family of three’s ceiling is lower and the reserve is not general-purpose money. Balances renew each year on 1 July. Before a planned admission, check your family’s current balance by SMS or the helpline so the hospital visit holds no surprises.
Who Is Covered, Exactly?
- Every permanent resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa whose NADRA record shows a KP permanent address; the whole family in that record is covered.
- There is no income condition, no poverty score and no registration drive: enrolment is automatic.
- Children are covered through the parents’ family record; keep B-Forms current.
- A married person forms their own NADRA family record and is covered under it, not under their parents’ record.
- Since February 2025, biometric verification at admission is mandatory in public and private empanelled hospitals, so the patient’s own presence and CNIC matter.
The programme also added a life insurance benefit in 2025 for the family head (reported at Rs 1 million for deaths under age 60 and Rs 500,000 above it), one more reason to keep the family record accurate.
How to Check and How to Use the Card
- Check enrolment: SMS your 13-digit CNIC number, without dashes, to 8500 or 9780. The reply confirms whether your family is enrolled.
- Choose an empanelled hospital: the panel list is published by the programme (sehatcardplus.gov.pk); confirm your hospital and department before travelling.
- At admission, present the patient’s CNIC at the hospital’s Sehat Card desk; the hospital verifies the family record and balance, with biometric verification.
- Treatment during admission is billed to the programme within your limits; you should not be charged for covered items.
- Keep the discharge summary and any balance message; remaining balance carries to the next admission within the same year.
OPD consultations, tests without admission and medicines to take home are not what this card pays for; planning an admission around that fact avoids the commonest disappointment.
Sehat Card Plus or Sehat Sahulat?
- Sehat Card Plus (this page): KP only; universal, every resident; run by the KP Health Department with State Life; July 2026 limits as tabled above.
- Sehat Sahulat: the federal programme’s model, eligibility through the NSER poverty survey (SMS CNIC to 8500), cover up to Rs 1 million per family per year in its areas.
In practice both use the CNIC-as-card idea and the 8500 SMS check; the difference is who qualifies. In KP, everyone does.
Sehat Card Plus: FAQs
SMS your 13-digit CNIC number, without dashes, to 8500 or 9780. Every permanent KP resident in NADRA records is covered automatically, so the reply mainly confirms your family’s enrolment and status. The helpline is 0800-89898.
From 1 July 2026: Rs 40,000 per family member for secondary care, Rs 400,000 per family for tertiary care, and a further Rs 400,000 family reserve for dialysis, cancer, heart and ICU cases if funds allow.
Correct. If your CNIC shows a permanent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa address, you and your NADRA family are enrolled automatically. Your CNIC is the card; there is nothing to collect.
No. Only treatment during hospital admission is covered. OPD visits, standalone tests and take-home medicines are not paid by the programme.
Empanelled public and private hospitals listed by the programme at sehatcardplus.gov.pk. Always confirm your hospital is on the current panel before admission, as panels change.
The additional reserve of Rs 400,000 per family exists for dialysis, cancer, heart and ICU cases and can be released if funds allow. Check your balance by SMS before and during treatment, and raise limit questions with the hospital’s Sehat desk and the helpline 0800-89898.
If you live in KP, the simplest step is to keep your CNIC and family record up to date, confirm your hospital is empanelled before a planned admission, and keep the SMS balance and discharge papers together. That way, the cover described here works as intended when you need hospital care, without extra paperwork at the desk.
