What Is the PM Fuel Relief Scheme?

The government launched the scheme in September 2026, when high petrol prices were squeezing daily commuters. The Finance Division’s announcement described a roughly three-month programme of about Rs 75 billion. Instead of cutting the price for everyone, the subsidy is targeted: only registered small vehicles get the Rs 100 per litre discount, and only on petrol, not diesel. The discount is applied at participating petrol pumps through a token system, so the vehicle and its quota are verified before fuel is dispensed.

Who Can Register for Fuel Relief?

  • Owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis and similar two and three-wheelers running on petrol.
  • Owners of petrol cars with engine capacity up to 800cc.
  • The vehicle must be registered with the excise and taxation department of its province or region, and its record is checked during registration.
  • One vehicle per owner, and the vehicle must be for non-commercial use.

Diesel vehicles, cars above 800cc, trucks, buses and commercial vehicles are not covered. Registration-date cut-offs apply to older vehicles and are checked against excise records automatically, so an older bike can fail the check even if it runs on petrol. Your mobile SIM should be registered in your own name, because the system matches your CNIC with your vehicle record.

How to Register: The 9771 SMS Format

Registration is one free SMS. Type the following in a single message, with single spaces between the parts, and send it to 9771:

REG [your CNIC number] [vehicle number] [province code] [registration date]
  • CNIC: your 13-digit CNIC number.
  • Vehicle number: the number plate, written without spaces or dashes, for example LHR123.
  • Province code: the one-letter code for where the vehicle is registered, such as P for Punjab and G for Gilgit-Baltistan. The official website lists every region’s code.
  • Registration date: the date on the vehicle registration card, in DDMMYYYY format.

You will receive a reply confirming whether the vehicle is registered for the scheme. If the reply rejects the vehicle, check the details against your registration card and correct any typing mistake before trying again. Rules and formats can be revised, so confirm the current format on the official website, pmfuelrelief.pk, before sending.

Using Your Token at the Petrol Pump

  1. Before going for fuel, send TOK to 9771 from your registered number.
  2. You will receive a token for your vehicle: a bike or rickshaw token covers 5 litres and stays valid for 7 days; a car token covers 10 litres and stays valid for 10 days.
  3. At a participating pump, show the token before filling.
  4. The pump applies Rs 100 off per litre up to the token’s litres, and the token is marked used.

Monthly limits still apply however you split the tokens: 20 litres a month for two and three-wheelers, 30 litres for cars up to 800cc. A token only works for the vehicle it was issued against.

How Long Will the Fuel Relief Last?

The scheme was announced in September 2026 as a time-limited programme of about three months, and international lenders have publicly pressed for it to be phased out. No final end date has been published on the official website at the time of writing. If you are eligible, register and use your quota rather than waiting, and check pmfuelrelief.pk for any closing announcement.

Fuel Relief Fraud Warnings

  • Registration and tokens come only through 9771. Any other number, app or website charging for registration is a fraud.
  • Never pay anyone to register your vehicle or to increase your quota. The quota cannot be increased by anyone.
  • The official website is pmfuelrelief.pk. Similar-looking websites are not official.
